What is Piece Lio?

Here is the part of an El Nido trip nobody photographs.

The propeller plane touches down at Lio, the door opens, and the heat arrives all at once — thick, green-smelling, completely different from the aircraft cabin you just left. You collect your bag from a trolley on the tarmac. And then, for most people, there is another hour: the van, the winding road, the wait at reception, the lift, the corridor.

At Piece Lio, there is almost none of it. You are three minutes away. By the time other passengers on your flight are still negotiating a tricycle fare, you have already put your bag down, opened a door onto a garden, and started the part of the holiday you actually came for.

That compression is not the reason the hotel is remarkable, but it is the first thing you notice. Where is Piece Lio located in El Nido?

Piece Lio sits inside the Lio Tourism Estate, a master-planned stretch of coastline in the north of El Nido where the roads are paved, the power stays on, and the beach is the kind you can walk barefoot along at midday without checking where you are putting your feet.

Two minutes on foot and you are on Lio Beach — four kilometers of white sand where the water goes flat in the mornings and the sun loungers are free. Around the estate: restaurants, cafés, boutiques, ATMs, a clinic, and the artisan village at Kalye Artisano, where you can watch someone weave something rather than buy it in a plastic bag.

Now the honest part. El Nido town is fifteen minutes down the road, and that is where the bars are, where the public market is, and where almost every island hopping boat pushes off at nine in the morning. There is a free shuttle. But if what you want at eleven at night is a five-minute stumble home from a bar with live music, you want a town hotel and you should book one.

What you get in exchange is quiet — the real kind, where you hear the frogs at night and nothing else.

What are the rooms like at Piece Lio?

Most El Nido hotel rooms are 18 to 22 square meters. You know the layout without being told: the bed, the gap beside the bed, the suitcase you have to move to open the wardrobe.

At the top of the range, the Presidential Loft puts the bedroom on a mezzanine above a full living room, with a kitchenette below — stovetop, refrigerator, kitchenware — so a slow morning can happen entirely indoors, coffee made properly, nobody dressed yet.

Two details guests bring up over and over, and both tell you something about the standard: the Japanese washlets, and the Dyson hairdryers sitting in the bathrooms as though that were normal.

The architecture is worth a sentence of its own. Greenery grows through the buildings rather than around them, the structures sit low into the terrain instead of standing on top of it, and daylight arrives in each room the way it was drawn to. What can you do around Lio Beach?

The pleasure of Lio is that a full day can happen without a plan, a boat, or a decision made before breakfast.

• On the water: island hopping Tours A, B, C, and D, plus diving, snorkeling, kayaking, and paddle boarding — the bay at Lio stays calm enough for beginners
• On the sand: swimming, beach volleyball, and the free loungers where most guests end up losing an afternoon
• On land: the Canopy Walk through the treetops, the Taraw Cliff via ferrata for anyone who wants their heart rate up, plus bamboo biking and trail walks
• For slowing down: spa treatments, massages, and sunrise yoga on the beach
• For a couple of hours out of the sun: the artisan workshops at Kalye Artisano

Island hopping tours leave El Nido town around 9:00 AM and return by 5:00 PM, so allow transfer time from Lio — or charter privately and have a lagoon to yourselves at the hour everyone else is queuing.

How do you get to Piece Lio in El Nido?

El Nido has its own airport — Lio Airport (ENI) — and Piece Lio is about three minutes away. For an early departure, this is worth more than any amenity on the list.

Option 1: Fly direct to Lio Airport (fastest)

Direct flights into Lio Airport are operated by Cebgo (the Cebu Pacific subsidiary that now operates the former AirSWIFT routes) from two gateways:

Important for Manila travelers: as of 29 March 2026, all Cebgo and former AirSWIFT turboprop flights moved from Ninoy Aquino International (MNL) to Clark. There is no longer a direct Manila–El Nido flight. From Manila you either transfer overland to Clark or use Option 2.

Option 2: Fly to Puerto Princesa, then travel overland

The workhorse route. Fly into Puerto Princesa (PPS) — frequent daily jets from Manila, Cebu, and other hubs — then head north by road for five to six hours through rice fields, roadside carinderias, and eventually limestone. It is a long day, and it is also how most people see Palawan properly for the first time.

Note: there is no direct Puerto Princesa–El Nido flight. Itineraries sold as PPS–ENI connect back through Manila or Cebu and can take 8–14 hours, so the overland leg is almost always the better option.
